The Zdeněk Veselovský Award
The Zdeněk Veselovský Award is an annual prize awarded to outstanding student first-author publications that significantly contribute to ethological research.
Eligibility

Applicants must be students of a Czech or Slovak university (of any nationality or citizenship).

Membership in the Czech and Slovak Ethological Society (CSEtS) is not required.
Competition Rules

The award is given for a first-author scientific paper published in a peer-reviewed journal in 2024.
Any form of publication is acceptable, including online early publication. -
The applicant must declare affiliation with a Czech or Slovak home institution in the paper.

The date of acceptance of the paper for publication must precede the date of the applicant’s PhD or Master’s thesis defence.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit:

the nominated publication in PDF format,
-
a brief summary (up to 100 words) explaining the significance and originality of the work,

a statement from the supervisor confirming the first author’s contribution and declaring that the applicant is or was a student at the time of the research,

a short academic CV, including date of birth and dates of study (start and, if applicable, completion).
Award Details

The award is granted by an expert committee of the CSEtS, which evaluates submissions based on the originality of the work and its contribution to ethological research.

The award includes a financial prize of CZK 20,000.

It is awarded annually; however, the committee reserves the right not to award the prize in a given year.

The award ceremony takes place during an ethological conference.

The awardee will be invited to present the awarded work at the conference (if it has not already been presented in previous years).
